The Final Work and Closing Event

The programme for liveeast is almost ending. There have been works in numerous sites and unusual settings such as a hotel, a car park, the backstage of a theatre, even a cafe in a castle and more! The last work is is Caroline Wright's HORIZON tommorow from 2:30 till 4:30 (durational) at the Thorpeness side of Maggie Hambling's shell, Aldeburgh/Thorpeness beach. Do come along!

There is more too - the 19th July is the closing event and artists talk at Colchester Arts Centre. Whether you have or have not been able to see any of the artists works then be sure to make it to this event because here you will get all ten of us in one room - presenting documentation, sharing thoughts and feedback in a creative, celebratory sort of context.

Live East Lift Off

Last Saturday was the launch of the Live East project by Norwich based art collective OtherOtherOther. It was a successful, sunny day held at the Norwich Arts Centre and featured the first of the works: Holly Rumble’s sound piece ‘Crowd Dispersal’. Listening to the aftermath of a busy gig through empty pint glasses was certainly an appropriate way to kick start a project which proposes ‘alternative views of the region’. Here we were in the same space where we usually attend music events and late night gigs - listening instead to the aftermath of one (through a pint glass held to the ear). The audience interacted by sharing the glasses like a telephone wire, passing them around the auditorium and listening till the last few voices dispersed, and the fumbling sounds of clearing up took over.

The afternoon continued with a succession of artist snippets (from those who are presenting later in the programme) giving a taster of their own pieces without giving too much away. There was a
talk about St Stithian’s church (which involved some singing outside the tattooist salon next door) as well as shadow capturing, story telling, a cut-out ode to an artist who ‘couldn’t be there’ and some souvenirs (see signed photo from Rebecca Wigmore) in exchange for writing down a joke.

There will be a similar coming together of all the artists on the 19th July at Colchester Arts Centre at the end of the project to discuss, show documentation and conclude what has happened in the last two months. In the meantime PLEASE come see the works happening at various locations around the East of England. This is a very exciting project featuring GOOD work and unusual, innovative portrayals of location. For the program details or if you miss any of the works you can see documentation at http://www.liveeast.co.uk/.
